The Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia comes to Bend Motorsport Park in Australia for the first time. In the second round of the one-make championship of the House of the Bull, the 20 Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2s battled it out on a fascinating circuit with technical corners and ups and downs that put the drivers to the test.
In Race 1 it was Jonathan Cecotto in the #10 TRT Racing Team Lamborghini who started ahead of the father-son duo of Tony and Jackson Walls in second. On the second row were Absolute Racing's Chris Van Der Drift and Marco Giltrap ahead of Dan Wells and Oscar Lee for the D1 Racing Team. Starting well the #10 managed to keep the lead, followed by J. Walls and Van Der Drift, who slipped after a few laps to fourth place, overtaken by D. Wells. The first to stop for a mid-race stop were Cecotto and J. Walls, who left the wheel to his son Tony. Wells and Van Der Drift thus move ahead, taking first and second place. Absolute Racing's #84 Huracán and D1 Racing Team's #21 Huracán return to the pits together with Van Der Drift relinquishing the wheel to Marco Giltrap, who drops back to second. Instead Oscar Lee, taken the wheel from Wells slips down to fifth place.
Due to the silting up of the TRT Racing Lamborghini driven by Kang Zhilong and Lu Ray, in the AM category, the race was neutralised by the Safety Car and the group was thus reunited 14 minutes from the chequered flag. At the restart Tony Walls spun, most likely due to contact with the #83 Lamborghini Cup Huracán, leaving third position and the podium to Changwoo Lee in the SQDA - GRIT Motorsport car. A few minutes later Lau's accident with the D1 Racing Team's #28 Lamborghini, AM class, again necessitated the race being neutralised. The race thus ended under Safety Car with Cecotto crossing the finish line first ahead of Van Der Drift and Giltrap and Brian Lee and John Kwon, who also won the AM class. The Venezuelan driver who started from pole position enjoyed the podium, but not the trophy. In fact, due to a penalty received after the race, Cecotto was relegated and Van Der Drift and Giltrap took the victory. The best classified and therefore winner of the Lamborghini Cup was Supachai Weeraborwornpong in the #71 Huracan of Siamgas Corse, who finished 14th overall.
For Race 2 Cecotto confirmed his pole position, ahead of Dean Canto paired with Sam Brabham in the #6 Huracán of the Aces Zagame Racing Team. Marco Giltrap together with Chris Van Der Drift opened the second row, ahead of Mark Darwin and Jason Loh of Iron Lynx. The first half of the race saw Cecotto maintain the lead without any problems and impose his pace, pulling a few seconds away from his rivals. Giltrap stopped around the 27th minute of the race, leaving the #84 car to Van Der Drift, who returned in 9th position. A few minutes later his direct rival for second position, Dean Canto, also stopped, replaced by his crew mate Sam Brabham. The grandson of Sir Jack, patron and founder of the Scuderia of the same name, re-entered in third position, behind Cecotto, the undisputed leader, and Darwin. Little by little, the driver in the #84 Absolute Racing car climbed the classification, moving back up to third position behind the #6 Lamborghini. With a clean and precise overtaking move he regained the second step of the podium, which he held until the end of the race. Under the chequered flag Cecotto, the dominator of the entire Australian weekend, triumphed, ahead of Van Der Drfit and Giltrap, who in turn preceded Canto and Brabham.
The AM category went to Absolute Racing's Lommahadthai and PasaritPromsombat, who finished 6th overall, ahead of Triple Ace Racing Team's KWONG Henry Hoi Lun and KWONG Hoi Fung Eric in the #91 Huracán and Jason Loh and Mark Darwin, who started from 3rd on the grid and finished 10th. In the Lamborghini Cup, Kumar Prabakaran triumphed in the #37 Iron Lynx car, winning the second heat of the weekend.
Next appointment in a month's time at Fuji for the third round of the Asian championship.
