Only the Super Trofeo Europe was missing for its season debut and the first round at Paul Ricard, France, did not disappoint expectations. After the Asian and North American series, the Old Continent series has finally started its engines. The Huracan Super Trofeo Evo2 took to the track on the French circuit for the first round of a season that will see its end in November at the World Finals at the Vallelunga circuit.
There were 48 cars on the grid, but the winners between Race 1 and Race 2 were VSR Team and Oregon Team, two teams that are well known in the Lamborghini Squadra Corse environment.
In the Pro Cup the Michelotto/Stadsbader pairing triumphed, with the Italian starting from the grid and gradually moving up to the front, leaving the race lead to his crew-mate, who drove the Vincenzo Sospiri-designed Huracan to the finish line victorious. The young 19-year-old Belgian is making his debut in the Sant'Agata Bolognese company's single-make series, but has already shown he can have his say. Behind them Balthasar/Moretti for Team Oregon and on the last step of the podium was Leitch in the colours of the Leipert Motorsport Team. In the second race it was the Oregon pair who got the better of their rivals Testa/De Wilde who came in second in Iron Lynx clothing. Sunday's bronze medal remained the same as Saturday's with Leitch claiming a double podium finish on the French weekend.
Pro-Am class in Race 1 saw the comeback of Lewandowski/Spinelli as category winners who thus sealed a one-two for VSR. Second was Schandorff/Au ahead of Schoonderwoerd/Y.Buurman who took third place. In Sunday's race the Target Racing Team pair won ahead of M.Ryba/E.Liberati and E.Zonzini/E.Colombini of Iron lynx.
In the Am category P.Feligioni/R.Kuppens, for Boutsen VDS, dominated the first race on Saturday, giving their first pursuer Badawy, in the Lamborghini Roma by DL Racing car, almost 5 seconds. Third instead were K.Li/J.Brunot for Leipert Motorsport Team. In the second heat, Rindone, teammate of the previous bronze medal pair, who had retired in Race 1 due to some problems, emerged victorious. Second again on the podium was Badawy, and on the lowest step on Sunday went the previous day's winners.
The final Super Trofeo category is the Lamborghini Cup. At Paul Ricard, the Privitelio father-and-son duo dominated both Race 1 and Race 2, by a wide margin. Five seconds lead on Saturday, while it doubled to 10 on Sunday.
The next round will be at Spa, Belgium, on the last weekend of the month, from 29th of June to 1st of July.
